South Shields School

Advisory Time & School Day

Advisory takes place every morning and is led by student advisors.  During advisory students will take part in target setting and reviewing targets on a weekly basis.

They will reflect on feedback from subject teachers and work with their advisor to find the best way to improve their outcomes.

Students in years 7 and 8 will also take part in mastery learning during the week to develop their expertise in areas such as timetable, spellings, mental maths, modern foreign language vocabulary and science basics.

All students will also study social, moral and cultural issues to develop a wider understanding of British Values as well an appreciation of social diversity across the United Kingdom.  They will take part in assemblies and specific sessions relating to careers information and guidance.

Older students will have a particular focus on preparing for university applications, apprenticeships and college as well as GCSE preparation.
