At South Shields School we provide a comprehensive CEIAG (Carers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) programme across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. We believe careers education, advice and guidance form major elements of the compulsory curriculum for each student. We provide a comprehensive CEIAG programme to students in every year group. We are committed to providing our students with a Careers programme which is engaging, inspiring and individualised.
We offer preparation for career choices and further education, as well as individual guidance and support, all students receive impartial careers advice.
Careers education is delivered in a variety of ways: through lessons, tutorials, assemblies, one-to-one career interviews by a qualifies careers advisor, career fairs, workshops and presentations delivered by industry specialists and events which take place both inside and outside school.
It is the aim of the school to fully meet the eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
We motivate each student to succeed in whatever route they choose beyond compulsory education; higher education, training or employment.
